The transport industry’s finest 5 aside teams took to the pitch on Sunday (21 August) to compete in the GB Railfreight Charity Cup in Ipswich with Goldstar meeting OOCL/Cosco for a nail-biting final!
Special commiserations went to Emirates Logistics who Goldstar beat in the semi-final. They were ‘chomping’ at the bit to get a ‘bite’ of the final, but Goldstar came back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 at the final whistle!
We would like to give a massive Goldstar thank you to GB Railfreight for organising an incredible event, and a special thank you to all our industry colleagues who helped to make the event such a success.
Bruce Poole at GB Railfreight had this to say:
“We want to thank you all for taking part, donating prizes, purchasing raffle tickets and for bringing your colleagues, friends, and family along too. It was a fantastic tournament and there was some excellent football played by all teams.
Congratulations to the eventual winners GOLDSTAR, winning the game by virtue of a Golden Goal against OOCL/Cosco in the final (and it really was an excellent strike) We also managed to get through the day with only one serious injury, although I imagine there was a large number of people struggling to walk the next day!”
Steve Jones at Goldstar Transport agrees:
“We’re really proud of our team, especially the golden goal which secured them the trophy. A great day was had by all the companies involved. We are very thankful to GB Railfreight for their fantastic organising of the tournament – it was also great to see the networking (and friendly banter!!) between the different businesses.”
The total raised by the event was a tremendous £3086.65 which will be going straight to the company’s chosen charity for this year, Prostate Cancer UK.
We look forward to returning to the tournament again next year to defend our title and we hope to see it bigger and better than ever with even more local businesses getting involved.
